Whenever you think of a calm environment, do you think of your home? If your home is not the first place you think about, then it’s time for a makeover. Your home is where you come back at the end of a hectic day at work; thus, it should offer the peace and calm you need to re-energize for the next day. Here are ways to transform your home into that oasis of tranquility:

1. Organize Your Home

Imagine getting home from work, walking through the front door, and seeing toys scattered around the living room, dirty dishes in the sink, papers piled up on your desk; complete and utter chaos. Just typing that out was stressful. People love a clean, spacious, peaceful, and organized environment. A simply-furnished, well-arranged, and clutter-free environment has an unmatchable impact on your brain and has been shown to make you happier.

A complete declutter can be stressful, but a junk removal specialist makes the whole process seamless and manageable. You won’t have to worry about disposal since they’ll do it for you. We admit that it can be hard to break the habit of “let’s keep this for future use,” but it’s a habit that you can grow out of overtime. As you clean out your home, consider new ways to improve the storage situation, such as built-in units or storage bins for the basement.

2. Change Your Lighting

Lighting has a powerful effect on one’s mood. It has been shown that people are more likely to feel depressed in the winter when the days are shorter. The same applies to your home. Low lighting and dark rooms can negatively affect your mood and make you sad and stressed.

During the day, ensure that your home receives sufficient natural lighting by:

  • Replacing your window treatments
  • Removing any light-blocking objects from the windows
  • Adding reflective mirrors to boost more light to the darker rooms

For the evening hours, use warm LED bulbs and accent lighting fixtures such as table lamps and natural scented candles to invite that calm ambiance into your home. Good lighting also helps you not struggle to ease into sleep at night.

3.   Introduce A Nature-Inspired Presence

Like the natural lighting, plants also bring a sense of calmness into your home. You can use low-maintenance plants like succulents, and they will equally add the natural spark you need. Feel free to add natural touches to the decor like those reflected by marble, wood, and clay to get that instant balance.

For every room, introduce statement pieces or fabrics that reflect nature, and you’ll achieve the desired calming effect that you need. Do this for your home’s exterior, too, and if possible, introduce a gardening section, add a simple water fountain, and take care of your lawn.

4. Use Neutral Color Tones

The color choice of your walls directly impacts the backdrop that’s reflected on your eyes. As you introduce greenery into your home, consider repainting your walls, changing your walls into more muted color tones, and leaving the furniture and decorative pieces to add the vibrant pop to your room seamlessly.

5.   Create a Hangout Space

Besides the living room, you should have an escape room to enjoy your peace doing what you love. You can do this by setting up;

  • A patio with cozy furniture
  • A swimming pool in the yard
  • A space at the corner of your living room to knit or exercise

Depending on your space, you can get your hangout area, and you won’t need an entire room to do it.

Everyone has their version of a relaxing environment. However, creating an oasis in your home doesn’t happen in one day. It’s a continuous process that, when done well, can transform your home into the distressing environment that you’ve always yearned for.
