We wrote about how we can make our home, balcony, and garden more livable, fun, and safe for cats. There will be some information about dogs, balcony dog potty, and how to train your dogs for potty.
Why do you need a balcony dog potty?
Sometimes, it can be difficult for different reasons to go for a walk with your dog, especially for working people. Also, the area where you live may not be suitable for going out in terms of climate. On the other hand, your apartment may not be suitable for taking out your dog. Many different additions can be made to these conditions. When we consider all these conditions, the idea of practicing our dogs at home may be more reasonable, especially for people who have difficulty getting their dogs out due to the reasons mentioned above. For this situation, you should first apply indoor toilet training for your dog. Therefore, you will need a balcony dog potty, which will facilitate satisfying your dog’s toilet needs.
Nature-friendly dog potty grass
Balcony dog potty can simply be defined as any box or frame which has hydroponically-grown, dirt-free real grass absorbing the urine. This real grass is long-lasting (1 to 3 weeks), disposable and lightweight, as well. Also, you can easily buy this product in online stores. However, you should build your potty box or frame compatible with your balcony. In this sense, you can make your own box with wooden blocks or you can use a rigid plastic container.
Drainage System
Besides, you can also make a good drainage system at the bottom of the dog potty you built and connect it to the balcony drain. Keep in mind that you should give regular water to the grass (one or two a week). This will help your grass to be more durable and minimize the smell. As you see, all you should do is measure your balcony, find a suitable box and get real grass.
Tips for potty training a dog
Although you meet many needs of your dogs at home, they might still miss some mentally stimulating activities. In order to escape from this condition, you should make them work for food. Therefore, with the aim of getting your dog trained for home and potty, you should keep your dog on a regular eating and potty schedule.
- There should be a strict routine for feeding them at the same time in both morning and evening.
- After 20-25 mins later from eating, take them to the potty and say “go potty”. If your dog does its business correctly, give it a reward (verbal praise or food).
- When you see your dog is not using the potty, you can say ‘no’ and take it to the potty. If it uses the potty, reward it.
- In the face of an accident, never punish it and just proceed with the routine.
No matter what training you want to give your dog, the most important thing is teaching your dog to associate positive things with the desired behavior (or command). Although the housetraining idea seems quite useful, it is still necessary to take them out at every opportunity because they always need to run, jump and play with different friends.
