Today, coconuts are valuable fruits in the world. Naturally, these fruits are subject to different fields for different purposes. One of those fields is outdoor and indoor decoration. In this article, I am going to specify the coconut planters, its decoration, functional points, and DIY part respectively.

1) Why Coconut Planters?

Coconuts are convenient for a planter. Because they have a fibrous shell as hard as many concrete planters. Meanwhile, coconuts have basket liners. There are some functional advantages of basket liners. First, they hold a great amount of water. Therefore, they provide water-saving. Second, basket liners have tiny drainage holes. These holes provide slightly evacuation and better fresh air entry. Though having separated from its tree, coconuts still hold a lot of minerals and vitamins. In other words, they have got enormous advantages rather than casual planters.

2) Two Common Types of Coconut Planters

Generally, coconut planters have got two balcony use types. One of them is a hanging basket planter Another type is espalier-planters. There are some decorative advantages for these types. One of that advantage is that hanging coconut planters can stand together. For this type, it will be amazing to use macrame plant hangers. In that way, you can easily water your plants. Second, they aren’t in the middle of your balcony just like egg chairs and small tables. So, they are space-saving. Plus you can adorn your coconut planters with tiny touches, for example, colorful beads. After then, your balcony will look more exotic and authentic.

The other common use is espalier. In that use, ten of the planters could stay together on a grill stand. Interestingly, this use is seen rarely in balconies. However, if you have an outdoor, for example, patio, terrace, garden, and backyard, you should arrange your outdoor wall for espalier use. Similarly, the same advantages are valid for the espalier model as I noted above.

3) Convenient Plants For Coconut Planters

There are a lot of plants matching coconut planters perfectly. I break down them into flowering plants and nonflowering plants. To illustrate, flowering plants are generally orchids, anthuriums, split-rocks, and so on. On the other hand, nonflowering are usually cactus, aloe vera, echeveria, and so forth.  However, if you prefer imitation plants, evaluating such a plant will be more advantageous in terms of being neglected by its maintenance. Furthermore, you should consider your plants according to if they endure summer and winter conditions.

4) Do It Yourself

I would like to add here ‘make your own hanging coconut planter’ as a solution proposal.

a) Materials

Coconut, Rope, Hook, Plant (Soil) or Imitation Plant (Moss)

b) Tools

Drill Machine, Curved Knife, Knife

c) Instructions

1) Firstly, get a coconut, divide into two parts or cut its one-third
2) As second, clean the inner white tasty part with a curved knife until you see the brown layer.
3) Clean the out fibrous layer with a knife till the coconut become a hard surface.
4) Open 3 triangle points, for example, like bowling balls with the drill machine under the coconut in a way that the rope passes.
5) Insert the rope from the open holes of the coconut planter
6) Be sure if the rope holds tight the coconut planter.
7) Fill the coconut with mosses or soil and add its plant.
8) Mount the hook onto the ceiling.
9) Lastly, tie the rope to the hook.
