Before talking about pallet planters in detail, it is necessary to say that pallets are very suitable and decorative materials for different areas of our home, garden, and balcony. Simply, pallets are flat structures made of wood and used in transportation and storage operations. Furthermore, they are strong and durable because they are made for carrying loads. Today, many people are using these wooden pallet structures for different purposes such as a couch for the balcony or different furniture for the patio. In addition to these two, they can also serve as planters, especially for vegetable gardening.

The versatility of pallets

Thanks to both its shape and the simple wooden structure, it is quite feasible to create the different shapes. Here, you can find the most popular and preferred shapes of pallet planters.

Rectangle planters

Firstly, this shape of the pallet planter can be counted as the most preferred type since it is large enough for plants and vertical as well. As you see in the photo, the planter is split into two parts. If you are not going to use it steadily, you can mount 4 wheels at the bottom and move it easily wherever you want. Of course, you can also paint your rectangle planter with different colors. With a hammer, a few nails, and a little handcraft, you can do this type of planter easily.

Large square box

As you see in the photo, you can create a unique large square pallet planter by putting three and two pallets on top of each other. How big the middle part of these planters is entirely up to you. Moreover, these types of planters are ideal for patios. Since they are big and heavy, using wheels could be a good idea for the purpose of moving easily.

Triangle planter

As mentioned above, it is possible to build various shapes of the planter with reasonable measurements and handcraft skills. For a triangle planter, you might need to first get into pieces and reassemble necessary woods to have a triangle shape. After you finish, you can paint it as you wish. Also, these are pretty much suitable for the porch, patio, and balcony as well.

Step planter

Here again, you should pull out some pieces from the pallet and bring them together in a reasonable way to get a pallet step planter. It is almost the same as the ladder planter idea. In this context, you should make sure that the steps of the planter are firmly supporting each other. Since it is one of the vertical planter stand ideas, you will have more free space so that you can have more plants and flowers on your balcony or any other outdoor spaces.

Vertical hanging planter

As you see in the photo below, it is a simple way to create a vertical hanging planter. For this vertical idea, you can use a pallet as a whole. Maybe, you need to restore a little bit of your plants and flowers. In addition, you can mount this pallet stand on the outdoor wall. Keep in mind that it should be strongly mounted for your safety.

Vertical planter holder

Another effective way for pallet planters is by using them as vertical planter holders. As you see in the photo below, small galvanized pots hanged on the pallet thanks to the potholders. Without any extra effort, you can use the pallet after you decide where you will put it. All in all, gardens, backyards, patios, and balconies are very good places for your planter stand.

The herb garden for pallet planter

In these amazing planters, you can plant different herbs for your vegetable garden. For example, basil, parsley, rosemary, dill, oregano, thyme, peppermint, chocolate mint, spearmint, tarragon, lavender, and any other that comes to your mind.

Pallet gardening tips

  • Select clean pallets without any toxic or chemicals since they are used industrially.
  • Wash and clean your pallet before using it. Also, you can use sandpaper.
  • Use wood stains for your pallet.
  • Wear gloves and be careful while you are creating your planter.
  • Depending on the size of your planter, you can put wheels to move it easily. Or create supports for the bottom of the planter.
  • Utilize wooden preservative paints to make your planter more durable for outdoor places.
