DIY Materials for Teacup Planters

  • Teacups or vase (porcelain or ceramic)
  • Potting soils
  • Plants or seeds
  • Drill
  • Tungsten drill tips
  • Small piece of wood

With these easy materials, you can create beautiful teacup planters. As with regular steps, you should first make a drainage hole on the bottom of the teacup. Then, you should put small pieces of rocks or coals. After, you can put your potting soil and plant. As you might think, the most challenging part of the DIY teacup planter is making a drainage hole on the bottom of porcelain or ceramic teacups.

How to Make a Drainage Hole for Teacup Garden

As you guess, it is difficult to manage a drainage issue for ceramic or porcelain teacups. Because of the nature of porcelain or ceramic, it should be better to move slowly and sensitively when drilling a hole in the bottom of the teacup. For this, you should first put your teacup on a small scrap of wood. In this step, the small tungsten drill tips will be suitable for the porcelain teacup drainage hole. Then, you can start to drill a hole in slow mode and with little pressure. Actually, you should practice this step with unused teacups or any piece of ceramic before. After you finish the drilling hole phase, you can put small rocks to create a nice working drainage system for your lovely teacup planters.

Moreover, teacup gardens or vases are very cute and simple material to be used as planters. These pots are very practical in accordance with moving easily and having different plants for your gardens since they are pretty small materials. With these small pots, you will have various lovely plants like succulents, cactus, and tulip bulbs which are popular and maintenance plants. Additionally, if you want to paint the cups, of course, you need some colorful paints as well.
